Win-Win ...Pre-Christmas Client Charity Contest

clock September 24, 2009 17:51 by author RachelleWood

Rumor has it that some people out there, don't care for the C-word... I actually love Christmas. (Christmas people, Christmas is exactly 3 months away) The word Christmas conjures up all sorts of different things for different people. One of the things I think of when I think of Christmas, is food, which then leads me to think of my weight. Sometimes I think the Christmas season should be re-named-"The Eating Season". Apparently it is ok to say no to that 3rd rum ball, really. ??

If you have trouble maintaining your weight this upcoming time of year.... We got you covered. For the month of November there is a contest being held (sorry world, it's for clients of Rachelle Wood Nutrition-formerly Positive Change, only). This contest is voluntary only, fake names will be used-(ever wonder what it would be like to be Angelina Jollie for a short time). How the contest works is clients pay $10.00 once at the beginning of the month to register and weight in weekly as per usual. Your weight loss for the month will be recorded, hence the fake name. Then at the end of the month the person with the highest percentage of weight loss will win 50% of the money and the other 50% of the money will go to the Charity of the winners choice. The amount of money you could win is determined by the number of people who are up for the challenge. I.E if 10 people sign up the total winnings will be 50.00 for you and 50.00 to your favorite charity. (FYI Charity also starts with C, and begins at home.)

If you are interested in doing something good for yourself and for a charity of your choice  then just email me at susan@rachellewood.ca, I will get you signed up, pumped up and ready to go. The $10.00 has to be paid by end of October. Fasten your seat belts... Susan Foster, RHN - Consultant Rachelle Wood Nutrition, www.rachellewood.ca

September- the Month of New Beginnings

The fall is a great time to begin your road to weight loss and wellness. During the month of September as the leaves change color and the kids go back to school, you may want to think about adopting some changes into your daily routine. One thing I suggest to my clients is to preplan your meals. This simple act can save you time and money in the kitchen, ensure your daily nutrient requirements are met, and create sturcuture to your eating routine. Kick your health up a notch this fall and be respectful to your body by choosing to eat local organic produce more and shopping at your local farmers market.

What’s for Supper Tonight?- Recipe for Roasted Asparagus Salad

clock July 31, 2009 22:03 by author Rachelle

Asparagus is a bitter green vegetable harvested in the early spring. Did you know that this vegetable takes almost 5 years to grow to maturity? Asparagus, like most green vegetables, help to alkalize the body and re-hydrate you. It is full of calcium, magnesium and Vitamin C. Enjoy this simple yet flavourful recipe for supper tonight compliments of Positive Change Nutrition, www.rachellewood.ca .

Roasted Asparagus Salad        serves 4

1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into bite sized pieces

2 tsp olive oil

1/2 cup orange juice

1 TBSP olive oil

2 TBSP orange marmalade

1 TBSP lime juice

1/2 tsp minced fresh gingerroot

8 cups mixed salad greens

Place asparagus on a baking dish. Drizzle with 2 teaspoons olive oil. Bake, uncovered at 400 for 10 minutes or until tender crisp. Combine remaining ingredients, except salad greens, in a small bowl. Wisk together and pour over salad greens. Toss. Pour in asparagus and toss some more. Serve and enjoy!

Rachelle likes to serve this salad with grilled Halibut for supper. You can eat this salad with cold or warm asparagus.  Do you have a recipe you would like to share with other blog readers? If so, email your suggestion to, positivechange@rachellewood.ca .

What’s for Supper Tonight? - Recipe for Chicken Fajita Salad

clock July 22, 2009 16:46 by author Rachelle

This recipe is delicious and one of my most favourite recipes on the entire weight loss program. I love this recipe so much I made it for supper last night.  The marinade is tangy with a kick of hotness. It makes the perfect lunch or supper, so try it tonight! This recipe is compliments of Positive Change Nutrition, www.rachellewood.ca

Chicken Fajita Salad   serves 3

1/4 cup lime juice

1 tsp chilli powder

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast

1 medium green pepper, chopped

1 medium red pepper, chopped

8 cups torn lettuce leaves

1/2 cup red onion, chopped

low fat ranch salad dressing

Marinade chicken breast in lime juice and chilli powder in the fridge for 1 hour. Remove chicken from marinade and throw out. Cook chicken breast on BBQ or indoor health grill. Cut into strips. Arrange salad by layering vegetables and lettuce and a large bowl. Top with chicken and dressing. Toss and serve!

This salad is low in fat and packed full of protein. You can also serve it wrapped up in a whole wheat tortilla with salsa. If you’re not watching your weight, you may top salad with cheese or sour cream.

Rachelle enjoys this salad anytime and all the time! Do you have a simple summer salad recipe to share with other blog readers? If so email it to positivechange@rachellewood.ca .

Outdoor Exercise Tips

Physical activity can increase overall health and wellness. Studies suggest that regular physical activities promote relaxation, regulate body weight and increase your imune system. Here are some tips to consider when exercising outdoors.

-Always use sunscreen of at least SPF 15 and apply at least 20 minutes before activity.

-Dress comfortabality and be ready to face all weather conditions.

-Fuel your body properly before exercise and bring snacks with you.

-Stay hyrdated and drink 500 ml of water for every hour you exercise outdoors.

- Be safe; always let someone know where you are being active outdoors, and when you are expected to be finished.

So this summer head outdoors as often as you can and try new activities. Keep a schedual and mix up your routine a bit. Find an exercise buddy to be accountable to, weather its for an after supper walk or a Friday afternoon golf game.
