Relay 4 Life 2010

clock June 5, 2010 15:14 by author Rachelle

Cancer is a disease that affects the majority of PEI families, and the Morrow clan is no exception. Having both parents die of cancer, the Morrows really take the Cancer Society’s Relay 4 Life to heart. For the past 3 years, To-Morrows Cure have participated in this popular event. While raising money for a great cause, the Morrows live by example and preach that you can aim to prevent disease by choosing to live a healthier lifestyle.

When the Morrow family contacted Rachelle Wood Nutrition and See Results about sponsorship, we JUMED at the opportunity to offer our assistance and help out this worthwhile cause.  After all, I do indeed feel like part of the family.

In 2008 I began working with the Morrows as part of a family, “Biggest Loser”, contest.  During that year not only did I help the Morrows lose weight, but to change their lifestyle and foster an idea to live a whole hearted healthy lifestyle.  Every few weeks I would attend family meetings with my scale and measuring tape, armed with healthy recipes and handouts pertaining to natural nutrition. Over the course of less than 1 year, the Morrows lost +550 pounds, raised money for local charities, donated food to the food bank and inspired all Islanders with their, “losing it and loving it” lifestyle. To find out more about the Morrow’s story, check out this link.

Last night was the first year I have attended the Relay 4 Life, and spent some time with my “extended Morrow family” (who I’ve missed very much I must ad). It was great to receive the family updates and noticed that the Morrows are indeed keeping a healthy lifestyle up. I enjoyed walking the track with them and raising morale around the campsite. I brought them granny smith apples and a handwritten card of support.

The Morrows love contests, and last night was no exception. Each family member was given a pedometer to track overall steps. Who ever walked the most steps during the 12 hour relay won a prize.  They have also created a summertime exercise challenge, where the person with the most steps wins a new pair of sneakers.  The Morrows have also agreed to walk/run the Terry Fox Confederation Bridge Race in September. So needless to say, the Morrow family has stayed healthy.

It was delightful to see the Morrows last night and I look forward to taking part in the Relay next year with To-Morrows Cure !!   Kiss
