Welcome Nutritionist Jolene Coffin

Rachelle is delighted to welcome Jolene Coffin to her Nutritional Consultant team! Jolene is a wife, mother of 2 and Nutritionist who is well known within the weight loss industry.  They  first met 8 years ago while working at another weight loss center in Charlottetown. Combined, Jolene and Rachelle have 16 years experience in the industry and have worked for 7 weight loss approaches. They are the most EXPERIENCED and EDUCATED Weight Loss and Nutritional Consultants in PEI (and perhaps the Maritimes)!

Why should you trust anyone else with your health? These days many people are trying to sell weight loss and meal plans, and I encourage you to do your research before purchasing.  Dieting and detoxification can be dangerous when instructed by those with no nutritional education. You can trust Jolene and Rachelle to customize a dietary approach just for you. We are now accepting new clients in the Charlottetown and Summerside office locations. Email info@rachellewood.ca to book your FREE 20 minute 1st consultation or call 892-SLIM.  If we’ve worked with you before, we’d love to work with you again. Former weight loss clients are able to jump back on the program at anytime!

Summerside Wellness Expo Success

clock February 20, 2010 20:15 by author Rachelle

I've just returned from the first annual Summerside Wellness Expo which took place within the Water street Mall. The Expo was a HUGE success for all that took part. Booths lined the floor with exhibitors who specialize in health and beauty services. Everything was represented, from exercise classes to hair salons, nutritionists to supplement companies. This event strived to help everyone who attended. Money raised from the Expo was donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Haiti Relief.

Rachelle Wood Nutrition was well sought out this year. As a booth exhibitor I spent the day talking to wellness worshipers who were keen for information. Today I was showcasing my successful weight loss program, as well as my Holistic Iridology service ( which I did a draw for a FREE reading ).  I also had a vegetable tray to share, as well as my own before and after photos ( note: I've lost 100 pounds from my heaviest weight).

Not only did I have the pleasure of speaking to the public at my booth, I was also scheduled to speak about nutrition.  During my talk, Tips for Healthier Eating, I shared practical tips for cooking meals, losing weight and preventing disease. I would like to thank everyone who attended.

In October 2009 I expanded my practice to Summerside, and currently see clients  on Tuesday from Vibe Health and Wellness. I offer a FREE 20 minute first consultation for all new clients who would like to find out more about my weight loss program. To reach me call 439-7445 or email.

I would like to thank all the other exhibitors at the EXPO for a fantastic day. I met many new wellness friends and enjoyed sharing my knowledge with them. My favorite part of the Expo was the fashion show, which used local models and clothing stores found within the Mall. Hair and make-up was provided by local business. Also a big thank you and congratulations to Tiny Moore Mundy who organized the entire event.

So stay health and well Summerside, and I look forward to inspiring you at next years event.

Q&A # 8- The Best yogurt to eat for weight loss.

clock January 26, 2010 20:32 by author RachelleWood

Q&A- Rachelle what type of yogurt do you recommend for weight loss? It seems like everytime I go to the store I see a new product on the dairy shelf.  Thanks you so much for your help.  Melissa, Summerside PEI

Great question BTW and I totally agree with you. Recently I’ve noticed that the dairy cooler at the grocery store expanded. Yogurt is sold in many flavourful varieties with ranging fat grams. It’s a good source of protein, calcium and iron. Yogurt contains good bacterias which vary from brand to brand.  It is often recommended to eat yogurt after finishing antibiotics to strengthen good gut flora.

I have(and probably always will) eat the same brand of yogurt .  It’s low in fat and calories with 90% less lactose then regular yogurt. Astros Bio Best Lactose Reduced plain yogurt is my choice. It’s in a blue containor with only 1.5 grams of fat per serving with no added sugar. Plain yogurt is a necessity for my kitchen and used to make dips, sauces and smoothies.

For breakfast I like to eat: ½ cup Astro Bio Best yogurt, ½ cup unsweetened applesauce, 1/3 cup Bran Buds, 2 TBSP Atlantic Healing Shelled Hempseed, grated cinnamon.  It’s filling, sweet, tart and flavourful.  Kinda feels like having dessert for breakfast!

If you like to eat fruit flavoured yogurt my next best choice would be Fat Free Activia. It is sweetened with sugar and has 80 calories per serving with no fat. If you don’t mind eating Splenda (I try to stay away from it), then buy Silouette, The Source or PC Finesse.  Astro Bio best make a great little stirred yogurt also found in a blue package (think jam + plain yogurt).

Thanks again for your question Melissa; I’m sure lots of other blog readers were wondering the same thing.  As always I value your opinions about my blog, if you have ideas or suggestions just email them to me.

Get Results @ Rachelle Wood Nutrition

clock January 9, 2010 11:40 by author RachelleWood

Well here we are 2010, ready or not. Like everything, life is as good as you make it. Like everything, life is as bad as you make it. So what will you make of your 2010?

At Rachelle Wood Nutrition we care about our clients, mind body soul. The key to permanent weight loss is to make the mind/body/soul connection, it's more then just a number on the scale. What kind of year will your mind, body, soul have? If your mind/body/soul had a voice what kind of 2010 would they ask for? Would you recognize the voice. If a tree falls in the forest...Food for thought and not a calorie in sight...sorry, just a little nutritionist humor.

This "fresh start" time of year, with all it's resolutions, can be a frustrating time of year. Just ask anyone at the gym trying to get to their favorite treadmill during the month of January. Good luck with that, no to worry that same busy treadmill should be a "ghost town" around mid-February. it's all yours then.

OK to help take the frustrations out of this years resolutions, lets work together. I am setting up a "Get results" Club at Rachelle Wood Nutrition. If we work together, the job can be fun.  Each year I make a list of resolutions then 2 weeks to a month later, I have not only fallen off the wagon, I have been run over by it. This year, instead of making a list and forgetting about the list. I am not only making a list, but I am checking it 4 times. I am making a game plan. My game plan is to checking back on my list in April, July, October then January.  How the "Get Results" club will work is that you email me your list of resolutions. I will check in on each of you periodically to see how the list is coming along, sharing with your my list and how that is going. Also I will be offering my assistance and suggestions where needed. If you're interested in joining the club just email me at susan@rachellewood.ca

Let's make 2010 count Innocent
In health and light

Rachelle Wood’s New Years Resolution

I rarely break a promise, and enjoy a good challenge. This year I gave careful consideration to my resolution and have narrowed it down to 2. My first resolution is to help Prince Edward Islanders lose 20 000 pound in 2010. My second resolution is to bike the PEI Tip to Tip race for Africa in October. Be sure to check my blog for resolution updates over the year.

Healthy Recipe to Share

My in office weight loss clients LOVE this recipe, especially the Souris PEI ones. It’s so simple, tasty and full of nutrition. Baked beans is a classic comforting wintwe time recipe. Beans are a great source of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals. This healthy recipe has less fat and sugar then more traditional methods of cooking.

Simple Slowcooker Boston Baked Beans        serves 4-6

1-2 tsp mustard
1 TBS honey
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
3 16 oz cans, great northern or navey beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped carrots

Spray slow cooker with non stick cooking spray. In slow cooker combine ingredients in exact order from tomato soup carrots. Stir well. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Mix well before serving. Enjoy this comforting recipe with whole grain bread for lunch or a graden salad for supper. Kids love this recipe, plus it cooks while you work in the slowcooker.

Stay healthy and well everyone and be your OWN positive change!- Rachelle Wood, RHN
