June Office Hours/ Email Etiquette

Our Charlottetown June office hours are: Monday 8-4, Wednesday 10-6 and Thursday 10-6. We have a strict cancelation policy and if you must cancel please call the office at 892-SLIM within 48 hours. We also need a valid reason for your file. We will no longer accent client cancellations via email. Now that Jolene and I are both in the office, rebooking via email is very confusing for us and the appointment books now stays in the office at all times. Should you have any questions please update our contact email to jolene@rachellewood.ca and she will be happy to answer them during business hours.  If you do not give us notice you will be charged for your missed session. Thanks for understanding.

Walk/Run Challenge Montague- Spring/Summer 2010

Rachelle has been asked to present monthly Nutrition Talk for Jeanie Nicholson’s new walk/run group. The next Nutrition session is booked for Monday June 14th at 6:30 in the Montague Wellness Center.  This talk is FREE for group participants, and each month Rachelle will share healthy living and weight loss tips, lots of yummy recipes, nutritional education and more topics. Welcome Nutritionist Jolene Coffin

Rachelle is delighted to welcome Jolene Coffin to her Nutritional Consultant team! Jolene is a wife, mother of 2 and Nutritionist who is well known within the weight loss industry.  They  first met 8 years ago while working at another weight loss center in Charlottetown. Combined, Jolene and Rachelle have 16 years experience in the industry and have worked for 7 weight loss approaches. Rachelle is honored to be teaching Business Mastery at CSNN Moncton this month and is able to book new clients in the area. She will be working from 2 office locations. Spring Fever

Spring brings out the best in all of us, and by working with others I’m often amazed by ones desire to achieve results if the right mentality develops. After the snow melts and temperatures begin to rise you automatically begin to think about your body in a whole new light. Bathing suit weather will be here soon and when you live on one of Canada’s most beautiful Islands, Prince Edward Island never more than 20 minutes away from the beach.

Now’s a great time to get started on the road to better health. Challenge yourself, get organized and most importantly focus on you. It’s those little things you do that combine together to create a healthier lifestyle. Activities like waking up a half an hour earlier to go for a walk, or eating a salad everyday. Simple small changes can equal success as a habit becomes your lifestyle. Perhaps you’ve caught the spring fever, are terribly upset and ready for change up-ahead.

Healthy Recipe to Share – Chickpea Pattys        serves 4

½ cup bulgur wheat
½ cup boiling water
2 large eggs
19 oz canned chickpeas
1/3 cup dry ww bread crumbs
4 TBSP fresh parsley, chopped
3 TBSP fresh parmesan cheese
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp dry mustard powder
½ tsp oregano
¼ tsp garlic powder

Stir bugler with boiling water, let stand for 15 minutes. Process eggs and chickpeas in food processor until smooth. Pour into bugler and stir well. Add remaining ingredients and shape into 6 patties. Cook in a skillet sprayed with non stick cooking spray. Dress up your burger with extra veggies and enjoy with a garden salad on the side.

Healthy Recipe to Share – Curried Cauliflower Soup    serves 4


I usually find cauliflower bland, but the curry in this recipe heats things up a notch. Cauliflower is low in carbohydrates and packed full of vitamins and minerals. Serve this soup as a substitute for mashed potatoes or as a side dish at meal times. SO simple and tasty, try it tonight. This recipe is compliments of Rachelle Wood Nutrition. 

1 TSBP olive or hemp oil
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup copped celery
1 TBSP minced ginger
2 cloves garlic minced
½ tsp cumin seeds
1 TBSP curry powder
2 cup vegetable broth
2 cup water
3 cup chopped cauliflower
1 cup chopped carrots

In a large pot heat oil on medium heat. Add onion, celery, ginger, garlic and cumin seeds, stirring until softened, 2 minutes. Add curry powder. Then add broth and water and bring to a boil. Add cauliflower and carrots. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. May serve as is or I prefer pouring ½ the soup in to a blender on high for 2 minutes.

February is Heart Month

Be happy and healthy the entire month long by focusing on your heart health. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women in North America. Some tips to improve heart health include:

- Limit the amount of salt and trans/saturated fat in your diet.

- Eat more whole live natural foods, the less processed the better.

- Supplement with Omega 3 fatty acids including: fish oil, flaxseed, hempseed.

- Eat 1 clove of garlic daily and other cholesterol lowering foods like oatmeal and almonds.

- Know your genetics and have your cholesterol and blood prossure checked regularly.

To keep your heart healthy, aim to exercise for at least ½ hour 5 days per week. Practice de-stressing activities and get enough restful sleep. Be kind to yourself and others, and learn to love yourself and others one day at a time.

Lose Weight Online with Rachelle Wood Nutrition

This month I will be launching an online version of my successful weight loss program available via subscription. I’ve been working on the project with local technology company Thinking BIG for over a year now. Be sure to stay tuned to my blog for our launch date. It’s very exciting!

 

Healthy Recipe to Share - Healthy Joes        serves 4

2 whole wheat pita bread cut in half
1 TBSP olive oil
16 ounces (1 pound) ground turkey
1 1/4 cup low fat pasta sauce
2/3 cup chopped onion
2/3 cup chopped green pepper
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup baby spinach
1 tsp Italian seasoning and black pepper
 

Heat saucepan on medium heat add oil. Brown meat and add onion, green pepper, tomato and spice. Then mix in pasta sauce and spinach. Simmer on low heat for 15 minutes stiring often. Serve in pita halves with baby carrots or an apple on the side for a complete 1 starch lunch!
