We live in a society that is obsessed with the word *diet *and being thin. It is estimated that 2/3 of the North American population are currently trying to lose weight.  Magazine covers promise overnight diet success, and these days popular female celebrities often weigh less than 100 pounds. This dieting culture is promoting statics to sore for eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, especially for teenage girls.

As a Holistic Nutritionist and Weight Loss Specialist, I truly believe that the word “diet” is the most negative word in the dictionary. First of all it contains the word “die “; secondly the word is usually associated with past failure.  When I have new clients join the Positive Change Holistic Weight Loss Program, www.rachellewood.ca , I always ask them , “What diets have you tried in the past?” Their response is always a negative one, because the “diet” did not work long term, and the weight came back on plus more.

Diet’s Don’t Work If:

  • You can’t follow it correctly, too restrictive.
  • You eliminate one of the food groups.
  • You consume extra calories beyond your daily needs.
  • You do not move more and be physically active.
  • You're not accountable to someone

Changing your lifestyle is the only permanent way to shed pounds and keep them off for good! A healthy lifestyle consists of good quality food, regular exercise, restful sleep and good quality water. Exercise helps to increase weight loss results, and getting regular sleep does too.

It’s easy to change your lifestyle, just take small steps everyday. You need to re-program your mind to think the healthy way all of the time. Try thinking like a thin person next time you’re invited out for dinner. Challenge yourself to order the healthiest and smallest dish you can. With practice, you will be able to reach your healthy living and weight loss goal.  It just takes a little bit of time!
