Situated in the heart of downtown Charlottetown, The Formosa Tea House is a popular spot to indulge in a light vegetarian meal or a cup of hot/ ice tea. This restaurant has a Taiwanese theme and the interior is decorated with many Chinese artworks, statues, figurines and jewellery. The restaurant consists of a row of private booths decorated in a natural wooden theme. The tranquility of the surroundings is almost as appetizing as the selective menu choices.

Last week my friend David and I decided to grab a bit to eat a Formosa. This was a new eating experience for David and I visit the restaurant often. After looking over the menu choices we both decided to order the same meal, fried rice. We shared a stuffed bun to start, and I also ordered a taro ice tea (which kind of tastes like a cold less sweet hot chocolate).

When our food arrived the waitress presented us with chopsticks, however neither of us were able to use them well. When the waitress noticed our frustration, she quickly approached our table and offered us a “free lesson”. Many people over the years have tried to teach me how to use chopsticks, but this new approach was by far the easiest. I’m afraid it took David a little longer to catch on.

Overall the meal was excellent, the service fantastic and the conversation long overdue. If you’re in Charlottetown and looking for a new ethnic dinging experience I would highly suggest this restaurant. The service is fast, friendly and the meals are reasonably priced. The Formosa tea room has a warm welcoming atmosphere sure to calm the mind and relax the body.
