All aboard the H1N1 bandwagon, pregnant woman and children at the front, everyone else back of the bus. I don't have all of the information about the pros and cons of this Vaccine, nor does anyone I think. That is why I am choosing not to have the shot. I think each of us have to make up our own minds about to get the shot or to not get the shot. Every where you turn in the media that's all you hear about, how to get the shot, where to get the shot, all the people who are getting the shot. I understand the government wants us to be informed. I am frustrated that there is not as much information as to what are 100% of the ingredients and 100% of pros and cons of this drug. How much is the drug really costing us in the long run?
I h
ave to smile when watching the news, everyone is being told where to get it and when, but not what you are getting. I can hear my mom singing again. "If all your friends jumped off a cliff would you?" I do not have children of my own (well not the 2 legged variety), if I did have children I would chose not to give them the shot. Their little immune systems are not fully developed until they are around 7 years of age. The thought of injecting some partly unknown substance directly into their muscle, is the stuff of horror movies. Happy Halloween kids, here's your H1N1 shot. Good luck with that.
To try and be some what objective (a stretch for me at times) I think some seniors who's immune systems may be low and a bad does of the flu could do them serious harm, then by all means have the shot. My hope is that these seniors are able to make a "sound" decision for themselves and not to feel overwhelmed by all the publicity in the media about how everyone should be vaccinated right away, get your walker, get down to line up at the clinic.
Money...this is a pet peeve of mine, I can not comprehend all the money this vaccine has cost us. How can we tell the children being raised in poverty that we can't afford to give you fruits and vegetables every day but we will inject you with this H1N1 shot for free. I think it does take a village to raise a child, and as soon as the village gets back from the H1N1 clinic, we will cook the kids a box of Kraft dinner.
As always I would love to hear your thoughts, email me at susan@rachellewood.ca . Stay tuned to our blog this week for Rachelle Wood's thoughts on H1N1.
