February is Heart Month
Be happy and healthy the entire month long by focusing on your heart health. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women in North America. Some tips to improve heart health include:
- Limit the amount of salt and trans/saturated fat in your diet.
- Eat more whole live natural foods, the less processed the better.
- Supplement with Omega 3 fatty acids including: fish oil, flaxseed, hempseed.
- Eat 1 clove of garlic daily and other cholesterol lowering foods like oatmeal and almonds.
- Know your genetics and have your cholesterol and blood prossure checked regularly.
To keep your heart healthy, aim to exercise for at least ½ hour 5 days per week. Practice de-stressing activities and get enough restful sleep. Be kind to yourself and others, and learn to love yourself and others one day at a time.

Lose Weight Online with Rachelle Wood Nutrition

Healthy Recipe to Share - Healthy Joes serves 4
2 whole wheat pita bread cut in half

1 TBSP olive oil
16 ounces (1 pound) ground turkey
1 1/4 cup low fat pasta sauce
2/3 cup chopped onion
2/3 cup chopped green pepper
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup baby spinach
1 tsp Italian seasoning and black pepper
Heat saucepan on medium heat add oil. Brown meat and add onion, green pepper, tomato and spice. Then mix in pasta sauce and spinach. Simmer on low heat for 15 minutes stiring often. Serve in pita halves with baby carrots or an apple on the side for a complete 1 starch lunch!
