Are you tired, run off your feet or stressed out? If you’re feeling zapped of energy try to consider which lifestyle factors may be producing these feelings. Seek to find solutions that increase health and are simple and practical to follow. Signs and symptoms of lack of energy include: poor sleep, low blood sugar, indigestion, irritability and general tiredness.

Some causes for lack of energy:

1. Poor Diet- consistent dieting, binge eating, lack of proper nutrition
2. Stress- creates exhausted adrenal glands resulting in fatigue
3. Medications- ask your doctor or pharmacist for a medication review
4. Lack Physical Activity- promotes weight gain, stiff joints, lower immunity

Preparing your own food is economical and usually more diet friendly. Food = energy. To increase your energy levels naturally try to consume one of these foods with each meal: `

1. Fruit- packed full of vitamin C, water and fibre, a replenishing food
2. Dairy Products- contain carbohydrates and protein, a rebuilding food
3. Nuts and Seeds- full of protein and good fat, a restoring food
4. Water- an essential element for everybody, a rehydrating food

If you eat a healthy diet chances are you should have plenty of energy. If you’re thinking about taking vitamins talk to your health care provider prior to beginning a supplement regiment.

Some vitamins to increase energy levels:

1.   B Vitamin Complex + Vitamin C- usually sold as Stress B Vitamin
2.   Metabolism Boosters - talk to your health care provider about the right choice for you
3.   Iron - do not supplement with iron unless you have a diagnosed iron deficiency
4.   Zinc- helps to increase the immune system and promotes proper organ functions

Getting regular physical activity can also help to improve energy levels. Aim to be active 30 minutes each day, and include cardiovascular and strength training exercises in your routine.  With regular movement your body will work more efficiently. Getting a good night sleep will also help.

I would like to thank my friend Valene for suggesting I write a post about energy. Do you have a blog post suggestion for Rachelle? If so email her.
