Looking for a toe tapping good time in PEI? Peaks Quay is the place. You’ll often find musicians jamming at the outdoor stage, rain or shine. This was our 4th Tweetheart supper and the creative juices were flowing online. It had been almost a month since most of us spoke face to face. According to the daily tweets most were looking forward to the photo shoot before dinner.
I arrived 10 minutes late, as per my usual fashion. The lovely photographer and Island Tweetheart, Rachel Peters volunteered to take our photos prior to the meal. I swear that lady can make anyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. Even first class ladies with red construction cut-out hearts. Check out the photos on the Tweetheart bio page.
Our meal choices varied from BBQ chicken pizza to haddock with Lance’s secret lobster sauce to chicken quesadilla. After gazing over the menu I did note a few healthier choices like curry chicken with salad. You say curry, I say order…it’s almost automatic.
I was amazed by the salad dressing options Peaks Quay serve. I swear our server Christina rhymed off at least 10. Nutritionist can be dietary snobs, let’s just say we know what we like. I chose raspberry poppy seed which to my disappointment wasn’t homemade.
Tweetheart Jamie Lee Mann sat beside me and we made a pact to share protein options. Who could resist curry chicken and haddock with secret lobster sauce? We we’re both satisfied and neither dish contained starch. As for the wine, well….isn’t it a fruit serving anyway? As if, on my healthy living program wine is typically considered a starch.
Eating out with a nutritionist can sometimes be a challenge. I never order desert, even though the ladies often do. Sweets were never really my indulgence, but a tray of fruit and cheese would do. The ladies were slightly disappointed and felt like coconut cream pie dessert was not up to par.
We noted that Peaks Quay prices were reasonable and the menu extensive. It is suitable for family dining or pub grub. The washrooms were clean, but small. Our server was friendly and accurate. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience.
A big Tweetheart shout-out to Berry O’Brian from Muddy Buddy who rocked out for the crowd onstage. I especially enjoyed the Coldplay song he sang as it’s always been a favorite of mine. Berry landed on stage around 9:30 as our party began to depart.
We tweeted, we laughed, we brainstormed, and we celebrated. Yesterday marks the launching the Island Tweet hearts website. Read the rest of our story here.
The Tweethearts are searching for the next restaurant to review, charity project and/or honorary member. We value your opinion and welcome your suggestions. In particular where do you like to eat in PEI and what do you usually order?
Till next time stay healthy and well,
Rachelle Wood, Holistic Nutritionist
