Our society is OBSESSED with dieting. The media is constantly exploiting “hot new celebrity diet fads” in newspapers and magazines. These articles often make misleading promises like, “lose 7 pounds and 7 days”, or “detox drink to the stars”. Obviously these headlines = increased magazine sales regardless of the validity of the miracle claim.
As an obesity survivor and Registered Holistic Nutritionist, it’s my job to educate the public about these misleading claims. Fad diets don’t work, the only real way to lose weight is the healthy way with one on one coaching from a licensed professional. Nutrition changes day to day therefore what information you read in a book printed 6 years ago could be false today.
Diets can be dangerous and/or even life threatening. Your body is built to survive however starvation diets (under 1000 calories per day) risk potential health problems amongst an array of nutritional deficiencies. As a professional I would never recommend a juice fast to someone with health problems, especially blood sugar imbalances.
Who is giving you nutritional advice anyone? I certainly hope it’s a nutritionist and not someone who read and book and now thinks they can be a “Diet Queen”. I’ve noticed this trend in my hometown, it seems like everyone is trying to be a nutritionist. Making false health claims and pretending to be a nutrition expert is indeed risky business.
When looking for a weight loss coach seek:
- Someone who is educated and look for diplomas in office.
- Someone who does not require you to buy supplements/food from them.
- Someone with LIABILITY insurance and request membership number.
- Someone with written instruction that is customizable to the client
- Someone who has produced results with someone you know and trust.
Prior to starting my own nutritional consulting practice I worked for my competitors as a weight loss consultant. I always felt more like a sales person and less like a nutritionist. It seemed like every health problem could be magically cured with vitamins only the clinic could stock. Or that the diet was so restrictive clients would eventually fall off the weight loss wagon and return to prior eating habits which promoted weight gain. That's why I chose to create a weight loss approach that works, based on real food and educated advice.
