Dieting on the darkside? How would you know if you were? You may seem like any other person trying to lose some weight, whom may eat more than they should. A person who binge eats is not necessarily, overweight, you could have a few pounds to lose, or you could have a few hundred pounds to lose. Binge eating does not discriminate. Being eaters are compulsive overeaters.

Binge eating is simply defined as a pattern of disordered eating which consists of episodes of uncontrollable eating. These episodes can be influenced by many factors but most likely they stream from an emotional level. The best way to heal yorself is to dig deep and do the emotional work.

Here are some questions to ask yourself. Do you:

  • Eat much more quickly than usual during binge episodes.
  • Eat until you are uncomfortably full.
  • Eat large amounts of food even when you are not really hungry.
  • Eat alone because you are embarrassed about the amount of food you eat.
  • Feel disgusted, depressed, or guilty after overeating.

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, you are not alone. There are many people that have issues with binge eating, right here on the Island. Do keep in mind that because you may binge eat does not necessarily mean that you have a binge eating disorder. Talk openly to your Doctor. There are some multi facetted approaches to assist you with this issue.

I'm currently reading, "Women Food and God", by Geneen Roth, and wouldhighly suggest anyone suffering from compulsivovereating read it. Roth expresses her thoughts clearly while motivating readers to make changes. When I finish reading it I'll do a  proper review.
