What does it mean to be healthy?

Health is a lot more than the absence of disease.  Health is a sense of well-being.  Even individuals living with a chronic disease or illness such as diabetes may properly consider themselves to be healthy when blood sugar levels are well controlled.

Healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.  Maintaining a healthy weight is certainly a big part of being healthy, however, achieving optimal health does not stop there.  Rather than focusing on achieving a number on the scale, think about balance… Eating healthy, exercising regularly, adequate sleep/relaxation, and making wise lifestyle choices… The rest will eventually fall into place.

Achieving optimal health means to me :

-Longevity and good quality of life

-Emotional, physical, and social well-being

-Practicing healthy behaviours and lifestyle choices

-Being comfortable in your own body

-Acceptance with a desire to want more
