It seems that everytime I find a groove at the gym life sends me in another direction.  I’m a frequent business traveler and have learned that I have to stay fit on the road. This week I’m in Moncton teaching Business Mastery at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. In all honesty it’s one of my favorite weeks of the year. Check out my teacher bio.

When you find fitness your body craves it. That’s what working out at Dynamic Fitness Charlottetown the past 5 months has taught me.  My days completely revolve around its schedule.  I even post a copy of it on the back of my office door for quick reference.

This week I’m staying with a friend in Moncton which means no fancy hotel gym.  She does have a treadmill and is training for a marathon.  Thankfully she is also dedicated to healthy living.  Let’s just say we’ve eaten a lot of salads together.

So this poses one question, where shall I work out? My first thought was Dynamic Fitness Moncton. Considering the fact that the Charlottetown location is closed this week for renovations, I consider myself the luck one! DF Moncton recently opened on Orange Lane which is off Main Street downtown. It hosts a hot yoga studio and Lululemon boutique.  I looked at the schedule online and couldn’t make any of the classes today.  Look forward to catching one on Thursday tho.

After teaching an enjoyable ice breaking Business Mastery class I decided to go check out the local YMCA gym.  I could remember a few of my previous students had suggested it to me before.  I walked up to the front desk to inquire about a day pass. They asked me if I needed the coupon (which can be printed from the website). My gut told me to say YES. I filled out the FREE 2 week pass coupon and walked right in. Sometimes when you seek fitness it surprises you.  I’ve been recently thinking about switching up my fitness routine at DF Charlottetown. I really enjoy hot yoga and it’s improved my mind as much as my body, but it’s time for a new challenge.  When the gym reopens next week I’m going to join some of Matt’s intense Eli Sport Adult classes.  Rumor has it if you’re really serious about getting results you’ve got to condition with Matt.

The YMCA Moncton is a newer facility which I found to be clean and friendly. The workout space is an open concept with MANY machines to choose from.  As soon as I walked in I spotted a row of spin bikes. Over I trotted since it’s my favorite exercise.  The time limit was only 35 mins which is no comparison to the DF Charlottetown Saturday morning classes with Meighan. She kicks your butt hardcore the entire hour, Infact last week the entire class was grunting. Today I burned 350 calories or 10 calories a minute. I was happy.  Next.

Over to the weight machines with water bottle in hand. They had fancy computerized machines that I couldn’t figure out, so I moved adjacent where the simple pull and place pin machines were.  That’s more my style! I moved from arms, to legs, to abs.  I forgot how much I use to love lifting weights.  My former signature gym move was finishing my workout with the heaviest lateral pull down I could do, and then strutting out (come on I know you’ve got one too). Anyway for the record today I pulled 75 pounds but only 4 reps.  I was happy. Guess the strenuous warrior serious in hot yoga class works more than just my abs and legs.

I’m feeling fantastic and decide to move on to more cardio. I found an elliptical and “gaver”.  Half an hour later another 250 calories burned. Not quite 10 calories a minute. I listened to the Ramones the entire time. I know weird gym music selection, but the beats are simple to move too.  Super catchy lyrics too.

I promise to stick to my fitness routine even while on the road. This week in Moncton I'm double gym-ing  Innocent
